HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

This unit applies to anyone who may be required to provide CPR in a range of situations, including in the community or workplace.

The ARC recommends that this competency is updated annually.

There are NO pre-requisites for this course however CPR must be performed on the floor.

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies, including managing the unconscious casualty, performing CPR, controlling bleeding and managing other life threatening situations in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

This unit is the minimum requirement for First Aiders in the workplace.

Minimum age is 14. All CPR must be performed on the floor.

This unit incorporates HLTAID001, HLTAID002 and HLTAID003.

HLTAID012 Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Childcare setting

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.

The unit applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

This unit incorporates HLTAID001, HLTAID002, HLTAID003 and HLTAID004.

This course meets the regulatory requirements as stipulated by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Authority (ACECQA).

Parents & Kids First Aid – Keeping kids safe

The Parents and Kids First Aid course is a professional,practical yet relaxed 2hour non accredited information session where new parents, carers, grandparents or anyone dealing with children can come along and learn some basic first aid procedures for keeping children safe.

First Aid Training for Teenagers

This course aims to equip upper primary students to teenagers with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to recognise and respond to life threatening emergencies using basic life support measures including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The specific topics covered include, recognition of injury or illness, recognition and management of the unconscious person, principles of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), recognition and management of the victim of choking, asthma, anaphylaxis and epilepsy, shock, control of bleeding, care of wounds, pressure bandage, burns and scalds, soft tissue injuries and fractures, bites and stings and poisons.

SUPPORTING PEOPLE TO LIVE WELL WITH ASTHMA AND ANAPHYLAXIS

The Supporting People Live Well With Asthma and Anaphylaxis Education Session runs for 1 hour and is, designed to help people who may need to support people with asthma and anaphylaxis. The course will help participants to recognise the signs and symptoms of asthma or an allergic reaction, and be trained in the national asthma first aid protocol. And the use of an auto adrenaline injector.

The Asthma and Anaphylaxis Management combined course delivers the essential principles, skills and knowledge in the first aid management of asthma and anaphylaxis, including the use of the adrenaline auto-injector (e.g. Epi-pen). This course is approved by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) to meet the asthma and anaphylaxis management training requirements of child care educators.
